Dr. Sam Asthana
Sam Asthana, DDS, FAGD is a general dentist who is eternally working hard to be the best dentist he can possibly be. Dr. Asthana believes in putting relationships first in his dental practice. He makes it a point to focus on fostering meaningful connections with his patients as people before all else. His interest in practicing dentistry was born out of his love for teaching, his extroverted personality, and his passion for solving complex problems. Dr. Asthana was recognized in 2025 as one of 10 Dentists to Watch in the United States by the Academy of General Dentistry.
Dr. Asthana has pursued a high degree of advanced training beyond his dental school education, with over 500 hours of certified continued education in lectures and hands-on training in orthodontics, oral surgery, cosmetic dentistry, and more. He occasionally teaches continued education courses to other dentists and dental students. Almost every month, Dr. Asthana takes a new dental education course, as he is passionate about lifelong learning and believes that his education to be a better and better dentist for his patients is a never-ending process.

More About Dr. Asthana
In 2024, Dr. Asthana was named a Fellow of the Academy of General Dentistry. This Fellowship is awarded to dentists who have attained a certain level of education and have passed a rigorous examination. Fewer than 6% of dentists in the country have earned this honor. He will also be inducted in 2025 to the Pierre Fauchard Academy, a dental honor society. Dr. Asthana is a Director of the Texas Academy of General Dentistry and had the honor of being President of the Houston Academy of General Dentistry in 2024. He also serves on councils and committees with the Texas Dental Association and the City of Sugar Land, where he grew up before moving to Houston proper.
Dr. Asthana was trained as a professional classical musician before entering the field of dental health, and studied classical saxophone performance at Baylor University. He takes a special interest in musicians’ oral health issues, particularly TMJ-related problems for musicians, and has lectured and taught on the subject at the North American Saxophone Alliance, the International Saxophone Academy, the US Navy Band’s International Saxophone Symposium, and multiple universities. He aspires to be a resource for any musician to help resolve their unique dental and oral health challenges.
Dr. Asthana earned his Doctorate of Dental Surgery at the acclaimed program at UT Health at San Antonio, where he graduated with a Distinction in Dental Education and multiple Honors in Leadership from the International College of Dentists, the Academy of General Dentistry, and UT Health at San Antonio itself. Committed to extremely high-quality patient care, Dr. Asthana provides: orthodontic treatment with clear aligners; cosmetic restorative dentistry including crowns, bridges, veneers, fillings/bonding, bite equilibration, and dental implant restorations; oral surgery including tooth extractions and bone grafting; conservative treatment of jaw and facial muscle pain; endodontic treatment such as root canal therapy; detailed preventative and periodontal care; and complete and partial dentures.
Dr. Asthana’s wife Allison is a professional flute player, and he can often be found supporting her at her performances across the state. He is also a hot yoga enthusiast and loves taking his dog Fig (the office’s namesake and mascot!) all across Houston.
